CSN Lady Coyotes Fall Short Against Eastern Arizona in ACCAC Showdown

Thatcher, AZ - In a pivotal Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) matchup, the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) Lady Coyotes were unable to overcome the Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters, falling 71-58 at Guitteau Gymnasium on February 1, 2025. Despite a valiant effort, the loss moved the Lady Coyotes to a 5-4 league record and 15-5 overall for the season.

The game started competitively, with Eastern Arizona establishing a slight edge in the first quarter, leading 13-10. CSN struggled to find their rhythm early on, hindered by a tough Eastern Arizona defense that limited their shooting opportunities. The Gila Monsters extended their lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Coyotes 22-16. This was due in part to strategic plays and several turnovers by CSN, which Eastern Arizona capitalized on, taking a 35-26 lead into halftime.

Saroiya Ajomale, the standout guard for CSN, had a remarkable game, scoring 31 points. Her agility and sharp shooting provided a much-needed spark for the team. Ajomale's efforts in the third quarter helped CSN cut into the deficit, with the Lady Coyotes outscoring Eastern Arizona 21-16 in that period. Her ability to drive to the basket and draw fouls was crucial, allowing CSN to remain competitive throughout the game.

Fuelled by Ajomale's stellar performance, CSN began to rally in the third quarter. The team improved their field goal percentage and capitalized on free throw opportunities, showcasing their resilience and ability to battle back under pressure. However, Eastern Arizona's consistent offense and strong defensive plays in the fourth quarter widened the gap again, outscoring CSN 20-11.

CSN shot 33.9% from the field overall and struggled from the three-point line, unable to make any of their eight attempts. However, their free throw accuracy was a highlight, with the team making 20 of 22 shots (90.9%). This accuracy at the line kept the game within reach at crucial moments.

On the other side, Eastern Arizona displayed balanced team performance with a 41.1% shooting accuracy from the field and made critical baskets from beyond the arc when needed. Their bench also contributed significantly, adding 30 points to their total, showcasing their depth.

Both teams were aggressive on the defensive end. CSN managed to force turnovers and convert them into 14 points. However, Eastern Arizona capitalized more effectively on turnovers, scoring 19 points off CSN's mistakes. Additionally, Eastern Arizona controlled the rebounding battle, pulling down 36 rebounds to CSN's 23, which included crucial offensive boards leading to second-chance points.

Despite the loss, CSN showed glimpses of brilliance and areas for growth. The team's ability to fight back in the third quarter and keep the game competitive against a tough opponent speaks volumes about their potential and spirit. As the Lady Coyotes move forward in the ACCAC season, refining their shooting accuracy and reducing turnovers will be crucial for success in upcoming games.

This game serves as a learning experience for CSN, highlighting both their resilience and areas requiring improvement. With a talented roster and strong coaching, the Lady Coyotes are expected to continue their competitive play and seek to improve their standing in the tough ACCAC league.
