Story Links

HENDERSON, NV – February 14, 2025 – In a dramatic series opener, the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes lost a heartbreaker to the Salt Lake Community College Bruins, 9-8, after relinquishing an early lead in the later innings at their home field.

The game started off strong for CSN, taking an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, courtesy of a two-RBI single by Miken Jacobsen that brought Camryn Hunkins and Jimena Barraza-Caro across the plate. The Coyotes continued to build on their lead, particularly in a standout fifth inning, where they exploded offensively to extend their advantage to 8-4.

Ellie Olson provided a highlight with a solo home run, sparking a rally that saw the Coyotes seemingly take control of the game. This inning was characterized by aggressive batting and taking advantage of defensive errors by the Bruins, putting CSN in a strong position.

However, the tide turned in the seventh inning when the Bruins mounted a significant comeback, scoring four runs to tie the game. This surge was capped by a two-run homer from M. Schneider, erasing the Coyotes' lead. The decisive moment came in the eighth inning when E. Pond hit a solo home run to put the Bruins ahead for the first time since the early innings.

CSN's starting pitcher, Mckenna Cahoon, faced challenges as the game progressed, ultimately conceding nine runs over eight innings, with seven being earned. His efforts were hampered by timely hits from the Bruins and a few critical defensive errors by his team.

Despite the loss, CSN showed strong offensive performances, notably from Ellie Olson, who went three for four, and Camryn Hunkins, who also added multiple hits. These efforts underscore the Coyotes' potential to rebound in subsequent games.

The loss was a tough one for the Coyotes, who had displayed great resilience and skill throughout the majority of the game. In his post-game comments, the CSN coach praised the team's offensive output and fight but acknowledged the need to close out games more effectively.

Looking ahead, the Coyotes are focused on adjusting their strategies and shoring up their defense as they prepare for the next game in the series, hoping to even the score and capitalize on their home-field advantage. The series promises more excitement, and CSN is determined to turn their fortunes around.
