HENDERSON, NV — The College of Southern Nevada Coyotes extended their impressive season record to 14-3 with a commanding 7-2 victory over the Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs in the third game of their four-game series at Morse Stadium.
The Coyotes capitalized on a mixture of solid pitching and timely hitting, breaking the game open early with a four-run second inning. Chase Frey led from the mound, earning his third win of the season by striking out five over three scoreless innings. His efforts were supported by a bullpen that kept the Dawgs at bay, despite a couple of late runs.
Prairie's pitching struggled with control throughout the game, as starter Dawson Morrill was charged with five runs (two earned) on four hits and five walks in just 3.2 innings, taking the loss. The Dawgs' defense didn't help, committing three errors that led to unearned runs.
In the critical second inning, the Coyotes loaded the bases with walks and capitalized on a wild pitch and a couple of defensive miscues by the Dawgs to push across four runs. Alex Rhynes and Tyler Garritano were instrumental, with Rhynes hitting a double and a triple and Garritano adding a pair of RBIs.
The Coyotes tacked on additional runs in the fourth and sixth innings to secure their lead. In the sixth, Rhynes tripled to right field, driving in Matthew Ramirez, and Garritano grounded out to bring Rhynes home, making it 7-1.
The Dawgs managed to scrape together a run in the sixth and another in the seventh off Simon Lemke, who closed the game for CSN. Declan O'Kane came off the bench to drive in Morgan Halliday with a single in the seventh, providing a late spark that proved too little to change the outcome.
As the series heads into its final game, the Coyotes aim to close it out with a sweep, while the Dawgs look to salvage a win and regain some momentum.
