HENDERSON, NV — The College of Southern Nevada Coyotes continued their dominant performance this season with a commanding 9-1 victory over the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans in the first game of their four-game series at Morse Stadium on Thursday.
Blake Uribe led the Coyotes from the mound, picking up his third win of the season. He allowed just one unearned run over 4.2 innings while striking out three and walking one. The Coyotes' bullpen, anchored by Evan Festa, closed the game out with 2.1 perfect innings, striking out six Spartans to seal the win.
The Spartans struggled to find their rhythm offensively, managing only two hits throughout the game against the Coyotes' stifling pitching. Brent Holdren drove in the lone run for the Spartans in the third inning with a single, scoring Titus Porter who had reached on a throwing error.
The Coyotes' offense was relentless, accumulating ten hits. They broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning highlighted by Chaz McNelis' two-run homer, his third of the season, which capped off the scoring for the inning. Jaxson Reiser and Harvey Smerdon also contributed significantly, with Reiser hitting a double and Smerdon driving in three runs, including a two-run double during the fifth inning rally.
Defensively, the Coyotes were not flawless, committing two errors, but these did not compromise their commanding lead. The Spartans, on the other hand, struggled defensively, committing four errors that led to several unearned runs.
The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 11:00 AM, where the Coyotes look to build on today's performance and extend their season record to 19-3. With today's win, the Coyotes continue to demonstrate why they are considered one of the top teams in the league, combining strong pitching, aggressive batting, and strategic plays to overpower their opponents.
