HENDERSON, NV — The College of Southern Nevada Coyotes delivered a crushing 14-0 victory against the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans in the second game of Friday's doubleheader at Morse Stadium, extending their record to an impressive 20-3 for the season.
Pitcher Kaken Soder turned in a stellar performance, throwing three scoreless innings with five strikeouts, picking up his third win of the season. Logan Smith followed with two solid innings, allowing just one hit and adding two more strikeouts to maintain the shutout.
The Coyotes' offense exploded in the fourth inning, racking up ten runs to seal the game early under the mercy rule. Anthony Marnell IV was the standout player, driving in six runs, including a grand slam that highlighted the ten-run inning. Joey Randazzo also contributed with a two-run homer, part of a total onslaught that produced 14 hits for the team.
CSN's base running was aggressive and effective, with Chaz McNelis stealing two bases and scoring twice. Roy Durham and Jack Wheatley each doubled twice, setting the table for big innings that the Spartans' pitching staff couldn't contain.
Dawson Roddak took the loss for CNCC, giving up three runs in just one inning of work before being chased in the second inning. The Spartans used a total of four pitchers in an attempt to stem the tide, but none were effective against the powerful Coyotes lineup.
The Coyotes capitalized not only on their powerful hitting but also took advantage of a struggling Spartan defense that committed one error and couldn't find a way to stop CSN's momentum. The victory is a significant boost for the Coyotes as they continue to dominate their season and look forward to completing the series with the same intensity.
The series will conclude with the final game of Friday's doubleheader later today, as the Coyotes aim to further cement their status as one of the top teams in the league with another strong performance.
