HENDERSON, NV, March 18, 2025 — The College of Southern Nevada Coyotes claimed a decisive 7-3 win against Chandler-Gilbert Community College in the first game of their two-game series at Morse Stadium, boosting their season record to 29-6.
The game commenced with both teams looking to gain an early advantage, however, it was CSN who struck first, slowly building a lead before a massive sixth inning saw them put the game beyond reach.
CSN's pitching staff had a standout day, beginning with starter Chase Frey, who held Chandler-Gilbert hitless in his short outing. Blake Uribe continued the effort until he handed over to Simon Lemke, who clinched his third win of the season with a solid performance despite allowing a run in his stint.
Offensively, CSN's sixth inning was pivotal. The team exploded for six runs, effectively sealing the victory. Key hits included a two-RBI single from Alex Rhynes, who had an excellent game, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a double. Anthony Marnell IV and Roy Durham also contributed crucial RBIs during the inning, with patient at-bats and strategic hits that capitalized on Chandler-Gilbert's pitching woes.
Chandler-Gilbert's pitchers struggled with control throughout the game, as starter Cooper Foster was tagged for five earned runs over four innings, taking the loss. His relievers, Ryan Dilger and Mason Stroh, did little to stem the tide, collectively allowing two runs in a game where CSN's hitters took full advantage of every opportunity.
The Coyotes also showed discipline at the plate, drawing eight walks, which combined with their six hits, continuously put pressure on Chandler-Gilbert's defense. CSN's strategy of patient at-bats and aggressive base running paid dividends and showcased their offensive capabilities.
For Chandler-Gilbert, the bright spots were few, with Trey Mandina providing the most notable performance, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double. Ayden Crouse also added two hits and an RBI, but the team couldn't muster enough offense to challenge CSN's lead.
As CSN looks ahead to the second game of the series, they carry significant momentum and will aim to continue their dominant performance to sweep the series. Chandler-Gilbert, meanwhile, faces the challenge of regrouping and finding a way to curb CSN's potent offense.
