Lady Coyotes Narrowly Miss Victory, Fall 4-3 to Roughriders in Tense Game Two

HENDERSON, NV – The College of Southern Nevada Lady Coyotes came up just short in a nail-biting 4-3 defeat against the Yavapai College Roughriders in the second game of their four-game ACCAC conference series this Friday afternoon.

After a promising start, leading 3-0 in the first inning, the Lady Coyotes struggled to maintain their momentum as Yavapai mounted a comeback in the fourth inning to steal the win. This loss brings CSN's record to 15-12 overall and 11-3 in ACCAC play.

The game kicked off with CSN taking an early lead, thanks to a triple by Jimena Barraza-Caro that drove in Camryn Hunkins, followed by a series of misplays by Yavapai that allowed two more runs. However, the Lady Coyotes were unable to capitalize further despite several opportunities.

Yavapai turned the tables in the fourth inning. A pivotal double by B. Baca brought in two runs, followed by a crucial single from O. Boswell that drove in another run, capitalizing on an outfield error to take a 4-3 lead, which they maintained for the rest of the game.

Despite a solid pitching effort from Mckenna Cahoon, who went the distance for CSN allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits, it wasn't enough to curb the Roughriders' hitters. M. Durr of Yavapai earned the win with a complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) while striking out five.

For the Lady Coyotes, Jimena Barraza-Caro stood out with a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, including a triple and an RBI. However, CSN's inability to execute with runners in scoring positions was their undoing, as they left several on base throughout the crucial middle innings.

As the series continues, the Lady Coyotes will need to regroup and refocus their efforts to split the series. They face Yavapai again tomorrow, hoping to turn their fortunes around and reclaim their earlier form that saw them dominate conference play. Fans are expected to show strong support as the team looks to bounce back in this critical stretch of the season.
