HENDERSON, NV – The College of Southern Nevada Lady Coyotes fell short in the opening game of their four-game series against the Yavapai College Roughriders, suffering a 12-4 defeat in ACCAC conference play on Friday.
Despite a strong start, CSN could not maintain their early momentum as Yavapai's offense exploded in the middle innings. The Lady Coyotes now stand at 15-11 overall and 11-2 in the ACCAC, reflecting their second conference loss in an otherwise dominant season.
The game began evenly with neither team scoring in the first inning. CSN took the lead in the second inning, capitalizing on a fielding error by Yavapai's first baseman. Kenya Butler's RBI single along with Jimena Barraza-Caro's two-run double, following an error that allowed two runners to advance, put CSN up 3-0.
However, the Roughriders responded in the third inning, rallying with four runs, highlighted by C. Pitrat's two-run homer. They added two more in the fourth and sealed their victory with a six-run outburst in the sixth inning. B. Baca and O. Boswell were particularly impactful, combining for six hits and driving in four runs, with Boswell contributing a homer.
CSN's pitching struggled as starter London Lamb was charged with four earned runs over three innings, and reliever Bryn Connors, who took the loss, allowed seven runs, albeit only six earned due to defensive misplays.
On the brighter side for the Lady Coyotes, Camryn Hunkins and Kenya Butler both had solid performances at the plate. Hunkins went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk, while Butler contributed a flawless 3-for-3 with an RBI.
With three games remaining in the series, the Lady Coyotes look to rebound and showcase the resilience that has defined their season so far. They will need to tighten their defense and find a way to silence Yavapai's bats if they are to come back in this series.
