HENDERSON, NV – The College of Southern Nevada Coyotes dominated the Yavapai College Roughriders 11-2 in the second game of their three-game series at Morse Stadium on Saturday. With this victory, the Coyotes advanced to a 32-9 overall record and an 18-8 standing in ACCAC play.
From the outset, CSN took control of the game, scoring early and often. The first inning set the tone when Roy Durham drove in the first run, contributing to a three-run inning that showcased aggressive base running and timely hitting by the Coyotes. The team's offensive prowess was on full display as they tallied 10 hits, with multiple players contributing RBIs.
CSN's pitcher, Chase Frey, delivered an outstanding performance, securing his seventh win of the season. Over five innings, he held the Roughriders to just two runs on four hits, striking out six and showcasing why he's one of the top pitchers in the conference.
The Roughriders struggled to find their rhythm against Frey. They managed to score their only runs in the fourth inning thanks to a triple by B. Francisco, driving in two runs. However, that spark was short-lived as CSN's defense tightened up, preventing any further damage.
The game reached its peak in the sixth inning when the Coyotes unleashed a six-run barrage. Key to this inning was Roy Durham, who blasted a grand slam to right-center field, capping off a six-RBI performance that left the Roughriders reeling. Kaiden Smaka and Anthony Marnell IV also played critical roles throughout, pushing the Coyotes' lead further out of reach.
Despite the Roughriders' efforts to rally, CSN's pitchers, including relief appearances by B. Jensen and S. Lemke, kept them at bay, preserving the large lead and ensuring a comfortable victory.
The Coyotes look to continue their winning ways and complete a series sweep, aiming to solidify their position as a top contender in the ACCAC standings.
