Coyotes Sweep Series with a Commanding 7-1 Win Over Monsters

Henderson, NV — The College of Southern Nevada Coyotes completed a clean sweep of their three-game series against the Eastern Arizona College Monsters with a convincing 7-1 victory on Saturday at Morse Stadium. This win propels the Coyotes to an impressive 27-4 overall and 15-3 in ACCAC conference play.

Pitcher Logan Smith clinched his fourth win of the season, throwing five scoreless innings and striking out one, allowing zero hits after relieving Tyler Avery who started the game strong. Jaxson Reiser and Simon Lemke also contributed from the bullpen, with Lemke navigating a tricky eighth inning where Eastern Arizona managed their only run of the game.

The Coyotes kicked off scoring early in the first inning thanks to a series of fielding errors by Eastern Arizona. Tyler Garritano capitalized with an RBI single, scoring Anthony Marnell IV who had reached on a fielder's choice and advanced on a throwing error. The fourth inning saw a further three runs added to the board, highlighted by Harvey Smerdon's two-run double and an RBI double from pinch hitter Ashton Zacher in the eighth that sealed the game.

Eastern Arizona struggled both at the plate and in the field. Starter J. Roman was pulled early after giving up four runs in just 1.2 innings. His replacement, A. Gutierrez, held the line until the eighth, when S. Orozco allowed three more runs to cross, compounded by defensive misplays that included two more errors, making a total of five for the team.

Offensively, the Monsters could barely muster pressure, with just two hits throughout the game. Their sole run came in the eighth when M. Vandenheu walked with the bases loaded, but any potential rally was quickly stifled by Lemke's pitching and a sharp double play.

Chaz McNelis, Tyler Garritano, and Harvey Smerdon led the charge for CSN, combining for crucial RBIs and setting the pace of the game. McNelis's triple and subsequent sacrifice fly in the eighth rounded out a solid performance at the plate.

The Coyotes' strong showing in this series solidifies their position as a powerhouse in the ACCAC as they prepare for the upcoming challenges in the season. Their blend of aggressive baserunning, timely hitting, and solid pitching continues to make them one of the teams to watch in the conference.
