Henderson, NV - The College of Southern Nevada closed out its three-game ACCAC series in dominant fashion Saturday afternoon, defeating Community Christian College 18-0 in a five-inning run-rule victory at Morse Stadium. The win marked CSN's 40th of the season and improved the Coyotes to 24-9 in conference play.
The Coyotes wasted no time jumping ahead, exploding for seven runs in the bottom of the first. After Tyler Garritano reached on an error and Roy Durham drew a walk, Jack Wheatley got the scoring started with an RBI single. Teddy Chartier followed with a three-run double, and two batters later, Chase Frey launched a three-run homer to right-center, pushing the lead to 7-0.
Frey and Chartier each finished with four RBIs, leading a CSN offense that plated runs in every inning they came to the plate.
CSN added three more runs in the third. Frey doubled home a run, then came around to score on a Durham sacrifice groundout and an error. The fourth inning saw the Coyotes tack on eight additional runs, highlighted by a two-run homer from Matthew Ziroli and run-scoring hits from Logan Smith and Ashton Zacher. Chartier also contributed an RBI groundout to cap off the inning.
Chartier went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Ziroli added three RBIs on two hits, including his first home run of the season. Matthew Ramirez had a three-hit day from the nine-spot, scoring three runs.
Starter Tyler Avery earned his first win of the season, tossing three shutout innings and allowing just two hits while striking out two. Simon Lemke handled the final two innings, giving up one hit and striking out four to seal the shutout.
The CSN staff allowed just three hits and one walk across five innings, combining for six strikeouts and facing only 20 batters.
Community Christian dropped to 1-35 on the season and managed only three hits in the series finale. Starting pitcher Joshua LaMantia took the loss, allowing 10 runs (eight earned) over three innings. Relievers Adrian Fierro and Antonio Figueroa struggled to slow the CSN offense, surrendering eight more runs in relief.
CSN has now won nine straight games and completed the series sweep over the Saints by a combined score of 53-1. The Coyotes will look to keep their momentum going as they approach a pivotal stretch of ACCAC play in the coming weeks.
