HENDERSON, NV — April 19, 2025 - The College of Southern Nevada softball team was stymied by a stellar complete-game effort from Arizona Western ace K. Corral, falling 4-0 Saturday morning at Lady Coyote Field in game three of their four-game ACCAC series. The loss drops the Coyotes to 22-18 overall and 14-9 in conference play, setting up a pivotal series finale Saturday afternoon.
Corral (9-5) dominated from start to finish, scattering five hits and striking out two while walking three in a 7.0-inning shutout. She also helped her own cause at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Arizona Western (25-17) struck first in the third inning when L. Rueda was hit by a pitch and scored on a deep triple to left center by A. Trejo. The Matadors added insurance in the fifth when Corral led off with a double and came around to score on a two-out RBI double from H. Love. They sealed the game in the seventh with a two-run rally that featured RBI hits by J. Espinoza and D. Martinez.
CSN's best opportunity came in the first inning when Camryn Hunkins walked and advanced to third, but a double-play throw home erased her and halted the early momentum. Hunkins finished 2-for-2 with a walk and was one of the few bright spots offensively for CSN. Jimena Barraza-Caro added two hits and Mariela Rodriguez chipped in a single.
London Lamb (7-4) took the loss for CSN, allowing 12 hits and four earned runs over 7.0 innings. Despite pitching to contact, Lamb was efficient and received solid defensive support with no errors committed behind her.
Arizona Western out-hit CSN 12-5 and left 11 runners on base but executed in key moments to secure the win and even the series at two games apiece. The Coyotes stranded eight runners and hit into three costly fielder's choices that ended innings with runners in scoring position.
The series concludes this afternoon with game four from Henderson, where CSN will look to bounce back and claim the weekend split in front of the home crowd. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. at Lady Coyote Field.
