Lady Coyotes Finish as Region 1 Runner-Up After Hard-Fought Championship Battle Against Arizona Western

Box Score THATCHER, AZ (May 10, 2025) — The College of Southern Nevada Lady Coyotes capped off a strong postseason run with a valiant effort in the Region 1 Softball Championship but ultimately fell to No. 3 seed Arizona Western College, 7-4, on Saturday at Eastern Arizona College. With the loss, CSN concludes the 2025 season with a 27-25 overall record, finishing as the ACCAC Regular Season #2 seed and Region 1 Tournament runner-up.

Arizona Western struck first in the opening inning, drawing a bases-loaded walk to take a 1-0 lead. The Matadors extended their advantage in the third inning on an RBI double from Nadya Moreno, stretching the score to 2-0. AWC would go on to tally 12 hits in the contest and took control with consistent pressure at the plate.

CSN battled throughout, highlighted by a two-RBI performance from sophomore Justice Lavin, who helped spark a late-inning rally. Freshman Jimena Barraza-Caro continued her strong tournament showing, going 2-for-4 to lead the Coyotes offensively. In total, Southern Nevada collected seven hits but couldn't overcome the early deficit.

London Lamb started in the circle for the Lady Coyotes and took the loss after tossing three innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out one and walking three. Relievers Mckenna Cahoon and Bryn Connors worked the final four innings as CSN tried to keep the game within reach.

Arizona Western's Kris Corral earned the win, going 6.1 innings while giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits. She struck out one and walked two before the Matadors' bullpen closed it out.
The Matadors' lineup proved difficult to contain, as four players—Jayleen Espinoza, Larissa Rueda, Analy Trejo, and Corral—all collected two hits apiece. Espinoza drove in two runs from the eighth spot in the lineup, helping Arizona Western maintain its edge. The Matadors were disciplined at the plate, drawing five walks and swiping three bases in the win.

Despite the loss, the Lady Coyotes showcased resilience throughout the Region 1 Tournament. After an opening-round loss, CSN bounced back with back-to-back elimination game victories over top-seeded Eastern Arizona and Yavapai College to reach the title game.

The 2025 campaign concludes with the Lady Coyotes establishing themselves as one of the top programs in the ACCAC and Region 1. With a strong core of returners and impactful freshmen, the future remains bright for CSN Softball.
