Lady Coyotes Drop Slugfest in Series Opener Against Eastern Arizona

HENDERSON, NV (May 2, 2025) — In a high-scoring battle to open a four-game ACCAC series, the College of Southern Nevada Lady Coyotes fell 12-7 to the Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters on Friday afternoon at Lady Coyote Field. With the loss, CSN slips to 25-21 overall and 17-12 in conference play. Game two of the series is set for Friday afternoon.

The contest quickly turned into an offensive showcase, with both teams combining for 30 hits and 19 runs. Eastern Arizona (EAC) took control early, erupting for six runs in the second inning off CSN starter London Lamb (7-6). The Gila Monsters capitalized on a mix of well-placed hits and defensive miscues, eventually finishing with 16 hits and taking advantage of four CSN errors.

Despite the early deficit, the Lady Coyotes clawed their way back with a four-run bottom half of the second. Key hits came from Justice Lavin, who drove in a run with a single, and Miken Jacobsen, who delivered a two-run single to center. Chaleah Workman capped the inning with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 6-4.

CSN narrowed the gap again in the fifth when Lavin and Mattingly Mauzey drove in runs to make it 8-6, but the Gila Monsters answered with four more insurance runs over the final two innings, highlighted by a solo home run from Yami Villa in the fifth and a two-run double by Mia Carbonell in the sixth.

Eastern Arizona's Jolissa Valdez  earned the win in the circle, working the first three innings while allowing four runs on five hits. Destanee Nez came on in relief to pitch four effective innings, giving up just one earned run and scattering nine hits.

Offensively, EAC was led by Taylor Christensen, who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a double, and Villa, who contributed a homer, stolen base, and two runs scored. Ocearn Mathews added three hits, and Maddie Reed went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

The Lady Coyotes had strong performances at the plate despite the loss. Jacobsen went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, Workman collected two hits and drove in a pair, and Ellie Olson reached base three times and scored twice while stealing two bases. In total, CSN tallied 14 hits, but missed opportunities and defensive lapses proved costly.

Lamb was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs over 2.2 innings. Bryn Connors worked the final 4.1 innings in relief, surrendering six runs (five earned) on eight hits.

The series continues Friday with game two scheduled for the afternoon. CSN will look to bounce back and even the series as they continue their push toward postseason contention.
