Region 1 Softball Championship Preview: Lady Coyotes Set to Open Against Arizona Western

THATCHER, Ariz. — Postseason softball has arrived, and the College of Southern Nevada Lady Coyotes are ready for the challenge.

The 2025 NJCAA Region 1 Softball Championship, hosted by top-seeded Eastern Arizona College, begins Friday, May 9 in Thatcher, Arizona. The tournament features four teams—Eastern Arizona, Southern Nevada, Arizona Western, and Yavapai—in a double elimination format with a berth to the NJCAA National Championships in Yuma, Arizona on the line.

Southern Nevada enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed after concluding ACCAC regular-season play with an 18-14 conference record and an overall mark of 26-23. The Lady Coyotes will open the tournament Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. in Game 1 against the No. 3 seed Arizona Western College Matadors.

CSN went 6-2 against Arizona Western in their regular-season matchups, earning a crucial two series win that helped secure the second seed. Now, with postseason stakes elevated, the Coyotes look to replicate that success and advance deep into the bracket.

The tournament schedule unfolds as follows:

  • Game 1: #2 Southern Nevada vs. #3 Arizona Western – Friday, May 9 at 9:00 AM

  • Game 2: #1 Eastern Arizona vs. #4 Yavapai – Friday, May 9 at 11:00 AM

  • Game 3: Losers of Games 1 and 2 – Friday, May 9 at 1:00 PM (elimination game)

  • Game 4: Winners of Games 1 and 2 – Friday, May 9 at 3:00 PM (winner advances to championship)

  • Game 5: Winner of Game 3 vs. Loser of Game 4 – Saturday, May 10 at 11:00 AM (elimination game)

  • Game 6: Championship – Saturday, May 10 at 1:00 PM

  • Game 7 (if necessary): Immediately following Game 6

The winner of the Region 1 Championship will advance to the NJCAA National Championships in Yuma, Arizona, set for later this month.

Southern Nevada will rely on a balanced mix of timely hitting and pitching depth to make a run. Behind strong efforts throughout the season from pitchers like Mckenna Cahoon and a resilient offense that has shown the ability to produce in key moments, the Lady Coyotes are positioned to be a serious contender in the bracket.

The road to Yuma starts Friday in Thatcher, and the Lady Coyotes are determined to extend their postseason journey.
