HENDERSON, Nev. — The College of Southern Nevada Coyotes wasted no time setting the tone Saturday afternoon, erupting for 11 runs in the first two innings on their way to an 18–1 victory over Community Christian College in game three of the series at Lied Field | Morse Stadium.
CSN scored four times in the bottom of the first inning and followed with a seven-run second to put the game firmly out of reach early. The Coyotes finished with 18 runs on 13 hits, drawing nine walks and capitalizing on five Community Christian errors.
The Coyotes jumped on the Saints immediately as
Caden Kirby doubled to open the game and later scored on a stolen base and throwing error.
Jake Gorrell was a catalyst at the top of the lineup, collecting three hits, stealing three bases, and driving in four runs, including a bases-clearing double in the second inning that pushed the lead to 11–0.
CSN continued to apply pressure in the second inning as
Alex Rhynes delivered a three-run double down the left-field line, and
Grant Smith added a sacrifice fly RBI. Gorrell capped the frame with his three-RBI double to right, turning the game into a rout.
The Coyotes added another run in the third when Smith singled home
Carson Anderson, who had reached base as a pinch hitter and later stole second. CSN put the game away in the fourth with a six-run inning highlighted by
Jase DeSantis' two-run single and another RBI triple from Gorrell.
Smith finished the afternoon a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while Rhynes drove in three and Kirby crossed the plate twice. CSN posted runs in four of its five offensive innings.
On the mound,
Christopher Wrench earned the win, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out six.
Dylan Franco worked the final two innings, surrendering one run while striking out two to close out the game.
Community Christian's lone run came in the top of the fourth inning on a groundout by K. Thompson, but the Saints were otherwise held in check by Coyotes pitching.
CSN improves to 3–0 on the young season, while Community Christian falls to 0–3. The two teams will conclude the series later this afternoon at Morse Stadium.
