HENDERSON, Nev. — The College of Southern Nevada Coyotes closed the 2026 Manny Guerra Border Battle on Saturday evening with a 14–4 loss to Salt Lake Community College at Lied Field | Morse Stadium.
Salt Lake struck early with three runs in the top of the first inning and used patience at the plate throughout the night, drawing 18 walks and capitalizing on defensive miscues to pull away in the later innings.
CSN responded in the bottom of the second inning when Evan Festa lined a two-run single down the right-field line to score Brandon Swanson and Jake Gorrell, cutting the deficit to 3–2.
The Coyotes tied the game in the fourth inning as Festa worked a walk and later scored on an RBI double by Harvey Smerdon. CSN briefly stayed within reach, but Salt Lake regained the lead in the fifth inning and broke the game open with a five-run sixth.
Smerdon finished the night 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base, while Alex Rhynes added a double. Festa accounted for two RBIs and scored once, and Joey Randazzo reached base twice for the Coyotes.
On the mound, Dominic Ostolaza made the start before CSN used eight pitchers in the contest. Mayson Reichartz provided 3.1 scoreless innings of relief, and Carson Anderson worked an inning out of the bullpen.
Salt Lake was led offensively by Kaden Hodson, who drove in three runs, and Luis Chavez, who doubled and collected two RBIs as the Bruins pulled away late.
The Coyotes conclude Border Battle play and will turn their attention to a three-game series against Gateway Community College, which begins next Thursday at Morse Stadium.
