Coyotes Hold Off SLCC in Kickoff Classic Rivalry Win

HENDERSON, Nev. — Jan. 31, 2026 — In their fourth game of the 2026 Coyote Kickoff Classic, the College of Southern Nevada earned a hard-fought 3–1 victory over longtime rival Salt Lake Community College on Friday morning at Lady Coyote Field.

Salt Lake Community College struck first in the top of the opening inning, using a walk, a single, and a sacrifice fly to take an early 1–0 lead. The Coyotes responded in the bottom of the second inning, capitalizing on a leadoff double by Chayenne Tepraseut to even the score before Hannah Horst delivered an RBI single. CSN then took the lead on an RBI double from Emma Leatham, giving the Coyotes a 2–1 advantage.

CSN added an insurance run in the third inning. Bella Hee reached base with a bunt single and advanced into scoring position on consecutive wild pitches before a sacrifice fly by Jimena Barraza-Caro brought her home, extending the Coyotes' lead to 3–1.

From there, pitching and defense carried the day for the Coyotes. CSN starter Camryn Averett worked 4.1 innings, allowing one run on four hits to earn the win. Hannah Holloway was sharp in relief, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit to secure the save. Together, the CSN pitching staff held Salt Lake scoreless over the final six innings.

Offensively, the Coyotes finished with four hits and four walks, producing timely offense early and protecting the lead the rest of the way. Salt Lake threatened late, placing runners on base in the seventh inning, but CSN closed the door to preserve the rivalry victory.

With the win, the Coyotes improved to 4–2 on the season and continued their strong start in the 2026 Coyote Kickoff Classic.
