BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. — The College of Southern Nevada women's soccer team delivered its most explosive offensive performance of the season Saturday night, overwhelming Mohave College with 32 shots and five goals in a commanding 5-2 victory in ACCAC conference play.
Cristal Lara scored twice, while Kate Oliva, Jacqueline Acosta and Leslie Villegas each found the back of the net as the Lady Coyotes snapped a seven-match winless streak and earned their first conference victory of the season.
Southern Nevada wasted little time establishing control. Lara opened the scoring just 3:31 into the contest, giving CSN an early 1-0 advantage and setting the tone for an aggressive offensive performance.
The Lady Coyotes doubled their lead in the 21st minute when Oliva converted a feed from Acosta at 20:06. Just 33 seconds later, Acosta added a goal of her own, extending the advantage to 3-0 and putting Mohave on its heels.
The Bighorns responded in the 26th minute when Courtney Howard scored off an assist from Kwynn Tanita, trimming Southern Nevada's lead to 3-1. Despite the goal, CSN continued to control the offensive tempo, finishing the opening half with a commanding 20-4 advantage in shots.
Lara struck again early in the second half, scoring her second goal of the match at 48:54 to push the Lady Coyotes' lead to 4-1. The sophomore's two-goal performance highlighted an impressive night in which she finished with six shots, including five on target.
Southern Nevada added its fifth goal in the 66th minute when Villegas finished an opportunity created by Ariana Martinez, extending the lead to 5-1. Mohave's Alayna Littlewood answered in the 72nd minute, but the Bighorns would get no closer.
The Lady Coyotes dominated nearly every offensive category, outshooting Mohave 32-9 and holding a 25-5 advantage in shots on goal. CSN also generated seven corner kicks while limiting Mohave to just one.
Oliva led Southern Nevada with eight shots, placing six on frame, while Lara contributed six attempts and five shots on goal. Jazlyn Chavez and Abigail Zito each recorded four shots, and Acosta finished with three shots on target to accompany her goal and assist.
In goal, Madison English played all 90 minutes, recording three saves to secure the victory.
The win improved Southern Nevada to 2-7-3 overall and 1-6-1 in ACCAC play, providing a boost as the Lady Coyotes enter the final stretch of the regular season.
CSN returns home Saturday, Oct. 17, to host Yavapai College at 7 p.m. at Cheyenne Sports Complex in North Las Vegas. The Lady Coyotes will also celebrate Sophomore Night, recognizing the program's sophomore student-athletes for their contributions and dedication to CSN women's soccer before the conference matchup.
