NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The College of Southern Nevada men's soccer team celebrated its sophomores Saturday afternoon at the Cheyenne Sports Complex, but an explosive first-half performance by Yavapai College spoiled the Coyotes' regular-season finale as the Roughriders claimed a 9-1 victory in ACCAC play.

The Coyotes wasted little time responding.
Just 88 seconds later, Garcia found the back of the net at the 5:07 mark, bringing Southern Nevada level at 1-1 and giving the home crowd an early reason to celebrate.
The match remained tied until the 18th minute, when Yavapai began an offensive surge that ultimately decided the contest.
Micky Finamore scored at 17:22 to restore the Roughriders' lead before Avella added another goal just 46 seconds later. Dale Baker and Finamore followed with goals 22 seconds apart in the 21st minute, extending Yavapai's advantage to 5-1.
The Roughriders continued their offensive pressure, receiving additional first-half goals from Judah Levy, Andres Arenas and Avella to carry an 8-1 lead into halftime.
Southern Nevada regrouped after the break and delivered a stronger defensive effort throughout the second half.
The Coyotes created several scoring opportunities, beginning with Erik Espinoza, who forced Yavapai goalkeeper Afonso Fernandes into a save in the 51st minute. Andrew Pena followed with an attempt in the 53rd minute, while Lex Madrigal put another shot on frame in the 70th minute.
CSN also limited the Roughriders to one second-half goal after surrendering eight in the opening period.
Yavapai's Joel Ajani Harrison completed the scoring at 84:15, converting an assist from Louis Heising to produce the final 9-1 margin.
The Roughriders finished with a 27-5 advantage in shots and placed 13 attempts on goal. Southern Nevada recorded three shots on target, with Garcia, Espinoza and Madrigal each putting an attempt on frame. Goalkeeper Diego Mendez finished with four saves for the Coyotes.
Avella and Finamore led Yavapai with two goals apiece, while Bellindier-Parada contributed a goal and three assists.
Saturday's match also provided an opportunity for CSN Athletics to recognize the program's sophomore student-athletes during its annual Sophomore Day celebration, honoring their dedication, contributions and commitment to Coyote men's soccer.
