HENDERSON, Nev. — Feb. 1, 2026 — The College of Southern Nevada fell 6–5 to Spoon River College in the opening game of Sunday's doubleheader at Lady Coyote Field.
Spoon River scored first in the top of the opening inning, pushing across a run on an RBI single to take an early lead. The Lady Coyotes answered in the third inning. Breya Hee reached base and Jimena Barraza-Caro followed with a hit before Ciana Cubi lined a two-run double to right field, bringing home Hee and Barraza-Caro to even the score at 2–2.
CSN took its first lead of the game in the fifth inning. Barraza-Caro reached base and stole second before Chloe Tepraseuth drove her in to give the Lady Coyotes a 3–2 advantage. Later in the frame, Payten Benson lifted a sacrifice fly to score another run and extend the lead to 4–2.
Spoon River responded with two runs in the sixth inning to tie the game, then moved back in front in the seventh on a solo home run followed by an RBI single to take a 6–4 lead. CSN made one final push in the bottom of the seventh when Tepraseuth connected on a solo home run to left field, cutting the deficit to one, but the Lady Coyotes were unable to bring home the tying run.
In the circle, Haley Horst worked six innings before Callie Averett pitched the seventh inning. Offensively, CSN finished with 11 hits, led by a 4-for-4 performance from Barraza-Caro and a three-hit, two-RBI effort from Cubi.
The Lady Coyotes will conclude the doubleheader against Spoon River College later today, with game two scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Lady Coyote Field.
