NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The College of Southern Nevada women's basketball team weathered an early surge from Yavapai College before taking full control in the second half, using a dominant third quarter to secure a 76–54 ACCAC victory Wednesday night at the Coyote Event Center.
Yavapai (2–25, 0–12) came out aggressive, shooting 8-for-15 in the opening quarter and building a 20–13 lead late in the period. The Roughriders capitalized on early CSN turnovers and knocked down two three-pointers to establish rhythm. A late jumper by Saroiya Ajomale trimmed the deficit to 20–15 at the end of one.
CSN (16–10, 5–7) began to settle in during the second quarter, tightening defensively and attacking the paint. Elizebeth Mahavong provided a spark inside, scoring seven second-quarter points, while Trista Mabry controlled tempo and created second-chance opportunities. The Lady Coyotes held Yavapai to just 3-for-15 shooting in the quarter and outscored the Roughriders 18–9 to take a 33–29 lead into halftime.
The game shifted decisively in the opening minutes of the third quarter.
On the first possession after the break, Ajomale buried a three-pointer to extend the lead. Moments later, Satsuki Bradley connected from beyond the arc, and Mabry followed with a jumper to push the advantage into double digits. CSN shot 10-for-17 in the third quarter, erupting for 25 points while holding Yavapai to 12. The Lady Coyotes turned a four-point halftime edge into a commanding 58–41 lead heading into the final period.
Bradley's shooting helped stretch the defense throughout the quarter, while Alanna Jackson and Jada Green controlled the glass. CSN finished the night with 51 rebounds and 21 second-chance points, repeatedly converting extra possessions into scoring opportunities.
The fourth quarter showcased CSN's depth and defensive pressure. Bradley drilled another three-pointer midway through the period, and back-to-back fast break layups from Mabry and Alana Conner extended the lead to more than 20. The Lady Coyotes built their largest advantage of the night — 26 points — late in the fourth before closing out the 76–54 win.
Bradley led all scorers with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 5-of-9 from three-point range. Mabry delivered an all-around performance with 10 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Mahavong added 11 points off the bench, while Green contributed 10 points and eight rebounds. Jackson finished with six points and nine rebounds.
Ajomale added eight points and seven rebounds as CSN placed four players in double figures and received 26 bench points.
After allowing 53.3 percent shooting in the first quarter, CSN held Yavapai to just 11-for-46 (23.9 percent) the rest of the way and limited the Roughriders to 2-of-19 from three-point range for the game.
The victory gives the Lady Coyotes valuable momentum heading into the final stretch of ACCAC play.
CSN returns to action on Saturday, February 21, traveling to face Arizona Western College in Yuma, Ariz.
