HENDERSON, Nev. — Feb. 27, 2026 — Behind a complete-game shutout from Haylee Holloway, the College of Southern Nevada opened its four-game series against Utah State University Eastern with a 4–0 victory in game one of Friday's doubleheader at Lady Coyote Field.
Holloway went the distance in the circle, allowing just four hits over seven innings while striking out four and walking five. She worked around traffic throughout the afternoon, stranding eight runners and navigating two hit-by-pitches to secure the shutout win.
The Lady Coyotes struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Jaydah Chun singled up the middle and advanced to second on a groundout. Destinee Lopez followed with a line-drive single back through the middle to plate Chun and give CSN a 1–0 lead.
CSN threatened again in the second inning. Ellie Leatham singled to left field and Ciana Cubi doubled to center to put two runners in scoring position. With one out, Athena Tonga'onevai reached on a fielder's choice, and Rylee Frei entered as a pinch runner. Utah State Eastern escaped the inning with a pair of defensive plays at the plate to keep the deficit at one.
The Lady Coyotes added to the lead in the third. Haley Horst reached on an error, and Leatham followed with a double to left-center field. An additional throwing error allowed Horst to score, extending the advantage to 2–0.
Holloway settled into a rhythm from there, retiring six of seven batters between the fourth and fifth innings. Utah State Eastern's best chance came in the sixth when a two-out error allowed a runner to reach, but Holloway induced a flyout to end the threat.
CSN broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cubi singled to right field and later advanced on a passed ball. Justice Lavin delivered a pinch-hit single through the left side to drive in the first run of the frame. After another passed ball and a wild pitch moved runners into scoring position, Frei singled up the middle to score Lavin and cap the four-run effort.
Offensively, the Lady Coyotes collected eight hits. Leatham finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Cubi added two hits including a double, and Frei recorded a run-scoring single. Chun scored the game's first run, and Lavin provided a key insurance RBI off the bench.
Defensively, CSN turned one double play behind Holloway, while Leatham anchored the infield at first base.
With the victory, the Lady Coyotes improved to 10–7 overall and will conclude Friday's doubleheader against Utah State University Eastern later this afternoon at Lady Coyote Field.
