HENDERSON, Nev. — Feb. 27, 2026 — The College of Southern Nevada dropped a tightly contested 4–3 decision to Utah State University Eastern in game two of Friday's doubleheader at Lady Coyote Field.
Utah State Eastern struck first in the opening inning. A leadoff walk and a single set the table before a run scored on a throwing error. An RBI single later in the frame gave the Eagles an early 2–0 advantage.
The Lady Coyotes answered in the bottom of the first. Jaydah Chun singled to left-center field and Jimena Barraza-Caro followed with a bunt single. After both runners advanced on stolen bases, Destinee Lopez lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Chun and cut the deficit to 2–1.
CSN evened the game in the second inning. Chloe Tepraseuth doubled to left field and moved to third on a bunt single from Mattingly Mauzey. Sierra Dennison added a single to load the bases, and Chun delivered a sacrifice fly to bring Tepraseuth home and tie the game at 2–2.
The Eagles regained the lead in the fourth inning. A hit batter and a walk sparked the rally before back-to-back RBI singles pushed Utah State Eastern in front 4–2.
The Lady Coyotes continued to battle. In the sixth inning, Mauzey tripled to right-center field to open the frame. Chun followed with a double down the left-field line, driving in Mauzey to trim the deficit to 4–3. CSN advanced Chun to third on a sacrifice bunt but was unable to produce the tying run.
CSN finished with 11 hits in the contest. Mauzey led the offense with three hits, including the triple. Chun went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double. Ciana Cubi added two hits, while Barraza-Caro, Tepraseuth and Dennison each recorded one.
In the circle, Brooklynn Richardson started and allowed four runs over three innings. Callie Averett provided three innings of scoreless relief, and Haylee Holloway worked the seventh inning.
With the split on Friday, CSN moves to 10–8 overall.
