HENDERSON, Nev. — Feb. 28, 2026 — The College of Southern Nevada fell 6–2 to Utah State University Eastern in game three of the four-game series Saturday morning at Lady Coyote Field.
Utah State Eastern opened the scoring in the second inning. After a single and a walk put runners aboard, a bases-loaded walk forced in the game's first run to give the Eagles a 1–0 advantage.
The Lady Coyotes answered in the bottom half of the inning. Haley Horst worked a walk and advanced into scoring position before Athena Tonga'onevai delivered a double down the left-field line to plate Horst and tie the game at 1–1.
The Eagles regained the lead in the third. A bunt single and a throwing error helped set up an RBI single that pushed Utah State Eastern in front 2–1.
CSN responded again in the bottom of the third. Jimena Barraza-Caro tripled to left-center field to spark the rally. After Jaydah Chun reached on a walk and later advanced into scoring position, Chloe Tepraseuth lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Barraza-Caro and even the contest at 2–2.
Utah State Eastern broke the game open in the fifth inning. A leadoff walk and bunt single ignited the rally before a two-run single up the middle gave the Eagles a 4–2 lead. A wild pitch later in the inning allowed another run to score, extending the margin to 5–2.
The Eagles added an insurance run in the sixth when a triple to right-center field set up an RBI single, making it 6–2.
CSN was limited to two hits in the contest — the third-inning triple from Barraza-Caro and the second-inning double by Tonga'onevai. The Lady Coyotes drew three walks but were unable to generate additional offense.
In the circle, Haley Horst started and worked 4.1 innings, allowing five runs. Nicole Carrasco entered in relief and pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing one run.
With the loss, the Lady Coyotes move to 10–9 overall, as reflected on the official box score.
The four-game series concludes later today at Lady Coyote Field.
