HENDERSON, Nev. — Feb. 28, 2026 — The College of Southern Nevada erupted for eight runs in the first inning and never looked back, defeating Utah State University Eastern 11–2 in five innings to conclude the four-game series Saturday afternoon at Lady Coyote Field.
Utah State Eastern threatened in the top of the first with a leadoff single and a runner advancing to third following a throwing error, but the Lady Coyotes escaped the inning without damage.
CSN responded with a decisive bottom half of the frame. Jimena Barraza-Caro singled to open the inning and advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Jaydah Chun. After Chloe Tepraseuth drew a walk and Ellie Leatham reached, Ciana Cubi brought home the first run on a fielder's choice.
The rally continued as Mattingly Mauzey delivered an RBI single, followed by a run-scoring single from Destinee Lopez. Payten Benson added another RBI single, and Justice Lavin drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 5–0. Chun capped the explosive inning with a three-run triple to right-center field, pushing the Lady Coyotes in front 8–0 after one.
CSN added to the advantage in the third inning. Lopez singled and later scored on an RBI single from Chun. Tepraseuth followed with a two-run single to center field, stretching the lead to 11–0.
Utah State Eastern broke through in the fourth inning with two runs on three hits and a pair of walks, but the Lady Coyotes limited further damage. CSN retired the Eagles in order in the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.
Chun finished 2-for-2 with a triple and four RBIs, while Tepraseuth drove in two runs. Benson collected two hits and scored twice, and Mauzey and Lopez each added multi-hit efforts in the nine-hit performance.
In the circle, Brooklynn Richardson earned the win, working 3.2 innings and allowing two runs. Callie Averett entered in relief and tossed 1.1 scoreless innings to close out the game.
With the win, CSN moves to 11–9 overall, as reflected on the official box score, and secures a split of the four-game series.
Next up, the Lady Coyotes will travel to Coolidge, Arizona, to open ACCAC play against Central Arizona College in a doubleheader on Friday, followed by another doubleheader on Saturday.
