HENDERSON, Nev. — Feb. 6, 2026 — Behind a dominant start from Christopher Wrench and a steady finish from Benjamin Schroeder, the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes earned a 2–1 victory over GateWay Community College on Friday afternoon at Lied Field | Morse Stadium.
The game was a tightly contested seven-inning affair, with CSN scoring once in the second inning and again in the fourth while limiting the Geckos to a single run late.
CSN opened the scoring in the second inning after Brandon Swanson worked a leadoff walk and advanced into scoring position. Jake Gorrell laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Caden Kirby followed with an RBI single to right-center field to give the Coyotes a 1–0 lead.
The Coyotes added an insurance run in the fourth. Jake Gorrell reached base, and Evan Festa later came around to score on a passed ball following a strikeout, extending the CSN advantage to 2–0.
Wrench was in control on the mound, allowing just three hits over five scoreless innings. The left-hander struck out seven and walked two, improving to 2–0 on the season.
GateWay broke through in the top of the seventh, pushing across a run on an RBI single, but Schroeder shut the door to preserve the win. Schroeder worked the final two innings, allowing one run while striking out one to earn his first save of the season.
CSN finished with three hits on the afternoon. Kirby drove in the lone RBI, while Harvey Smerdon and Alex Rhynes each collected a hit. Rhynes and Festa added stolen bases as the Coyotes manufactured runs in a low-scoring contest.
