HENDERSON, Nev. — March 13, 2026 — The College of Southern Nevada fell to Arizona Western College 9–5 in the second game of Friday's ACCAC doubleheader at Lady Coyote Field.
Arizona Western jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Analy Trejo launched a two-run home run to give the Matadors a 2–0 advantage. The Matadors extended the lead in the second inning as Trejo delivered again, this time with a two-run triple that pushed the margin to 4–0.
The Lady Coyotes got on the board in the third inning. Ciana Cubi singled and later scored when Mattingly Mauzey doubled to left field and advanced to third on the play, trimming the deficit to 4–1.
Arizona Western held the lead until the fifth inning when CSN rallied to close the gap. Justice Lavin singled to begin the frame and Jimena Barraza-Caro entered as a pinch runner. Mariela Rodriguez then delivered an RBI triple to right field to score Barraza-Caro. Moments later, Sierra Dennison lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that brought Rodriguez home, cutting the Matadors' lead to 4–3.
The Matadors answered in the sixth inning when a sacrifice fly extended their lead to 5–3.
CSN again pulled within one run in the bottom of the sixth. Jaydah Chun drew a walk and advanced before Athena Tonga'onevai drove her in with an RBI double to left field, making it 5–4.
Arizona Western broke the game open in the seventh inning. A double and a walk set the stage for an RBI single from Larissa Rueda. Avery Rodriguez followed with an RBI single, and Riley Purdy delivered a two-run double to extend the Matadors' lead to 9–4.
The Lady Coyotes added a run in the bottom of the seventh when Miken Jacobsen reached base and later scored on an RBI single from Mauzey, but the rally fell short as Arizona Western secured the win.
Mauzey led the CSN offense with three hits and three RBIs, while Cubi added a hit and a run scored. Rodriguez recorded the RBI triple, and Tonga'onevai contributed an RBI double.
In the circle, Haylee Holloway went the distance for the Lady Coyotes, allowing nine runs on 12 hits while striking out two.
With the loss, CSN moves to 15–11 overall and 4–2 in ACCAC play.
The four-game ACCAC series between the Lady Coyotes and Arizona Western will conclude Saturday at Lady Coyote Field with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m..
