HENDERSON, Nev. — March 13, 2026 — The College of Southern Nevada used a three-run sixth inning to rally past Arizona Western College, earning a 6–5 victory in the opening game of a four-game ACCAC series Friday afternoon at Lady Coyote Field.
Arizona Western struck first in the fourth inning. After a walk and a single put runners aboard, Aaliyah Soderlund delivered an RBI single to give the Matadors a 1–0 lead.
The Lady Coyotes responded in the bottom half of the inning. Ciana Cubi worked a walk and Mariela Rodriguez entered as a pinch runner. Following a sacrifice bunt from Payten Benson, Justice Lavin laid down a bunt single that allowed Rodriguez to score and tie the game at 1–1.
The Matadors regained the lead in the fifth inning when Analy Trejo singled to left field to score Rauni Gallegos, putting Arizona Western back in front 2–1.
CSN answered in the bottom of the fifth. Destinee Lopez drew a walk and Sierra Dennison entered as a pinch runner before advancing on a passed ball. Cubi then delivered an RBI single to right field to tie the game. Mattingly Mauzey followed with a run-scoring double that plated Cubi and gave the Lady Coyotes their first lead of the afternoon, 3–2.
Arizona Western evened the game again in the sixth inning when Riley Purdy hit a solo home run to left field, tying the contest at 3–3.
The Lady Coyotes responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Breya Hee reached base and moved into scoring position before Chloe Tepraseuth drew a walk. Lopez then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Hee and restored the CSN lead. Tepraseuth later crossed the plate on a wild pitch, and Mauzey added an RBI single to extend the advantage to 6–3.
Arizona Western threatened in the seventh inning. Trejo doubled to center field and later scored when Larissa Rueda singled to left field, bringing the Matadors within one run at 6–5. With the tying run aboard, the Lady Coyotes turned to Haley Horst, who induced the final groundout to secure the victory.
Mauzey led the CSN offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Cubi also collected two hits and drove in a run. Lavin and Lopez each added RBIs as the Lady Coyotes capitalized on patience at the plate, drawing 10 walks in the win.
In the circle, Haley Horst earned the victory after working 6.1 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out three. Callie Averett briefly entered in relief before Horst returned to record the final out.
With the win, the Lady Coyotes improve to 15–10 overall and 4–1 in ACCAC play.
The four-game ACCAC series continues later Friday afternoon as CSN and Arizona Western return to Lady Coyote Field for game two of the series.
