COOLIDGE, Ariz. — March 6, 2026 — The College of Southern Nevada dropped a heartbreaker in the second game of Friday's ACCAC-opening doubleheader, falling 9–8 to Central Arizona College after a late seventh-inning rally.
The Lady Coyotes jumped on the board in the top of the first inning. Jaydah Chun drew a walk and advanced around the bases before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Destinee Lopez, giving CSN a 1–0 lead.
Central Arizona answered immediately when M. Hernandez led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run to even the score at 1–1.
CSN responded in the second inning with a three-run rally. Haley Horst doubled to start the inning before Mattingly Mauzey drove her home with a run-scoring single. Two batters later, Payten Benson launched a two-run home run to center field to give the Lady Coyotes a 4–1 advantage.
Central Arizona cut into the lead in the third inning, scoring twice on a run-scoring groundout and an RBI single to pull within 4–3.
The Coyotes extended the lead in the fourth inning when Mauzey reached base and Mariela Rodriguez followed with an RBI double to make it 5–3.
CSN added two more runs in the fifth inning. Chloe Tepraseuth walked and later scored on an RBI single from Lopez. Moments later, a passed ball allowed Horst to cross the plate, stretching the Lady Coyotes' advantage to 7–3.
Central Arizona picked up a run in the sixth inning to trim the deficit to 7–4.
CSN added an insurance run in the seventh when Mauzey singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Rodriguez, giving the Lady Coyotes an 8–4 lead entering the bottom half of the inning.
The Vaqueros mounted a dramatic comeback in the final frame. After a double and a walk put runners on base, a two-run double cut the lead in half. Central Arizona followed with an RBI single, a run-scoring triple, and a final RBI single to complete the five-run rally and secure the walk-off victory.
Offensively, Mauzey led the Lady Coyotes with three hits and three runs scored. Lopez finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Benson added the two-run home run. Rodriguez collected two RBIs, and Horst added a double in the loss.
In the circle, Brooklynn Richardson started for CSN and allowed one run in the opening inning. Callie Averett provided 4.2 innings of relief, allowing three runs while striking out two. Haylee Holloway took the loss after entering in the seventh inning.
With the loss, the Lady Coyotes move to 12–10 overall and 1–1 in ACCAC play.
The four-game ACCAC series between CSN and Central Arizona continues Saturday in Coolidge with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
