THATCHER, Ariz. — May 1, 2026 — The College of Southern Nevada was unable to recover from an early deficit, falling 9–0 to Eastern Arizona College in game two of Friday's ACCAC doubleheader.
Eastern Arizona seized control in the second inning, breaking the game open with a five-run frame. The Gila Monsters capitalized on a combination of hits and free passes, with key RBI contributions from Vanessa Gavigan, Camryn O'Farrell, and Madeline Reed to take a 5–0 lead.
The momentum continued in the third inning as Eastern Arizona added two more runs. Jessica Szelenyi and Nuvia Urquiza each recorded hits during the rally, helping extend the lead to 7–0.
The Gila Monsters added insurance in the fourth inning, scoring two additional runs to push the advantage to 9–0.
CSN was limited offensively throughout the contest, finishing with four hits. Breya Hee led the Lady Coyotes with a hit, while Destinee Lopez and Mariela Rodriguez also recorded hits. CSN was unable to string together multiple scoring opportunities against Eastern Arizona pitching.
In the circle, Haley Horst started for the Lady Coyotes and worked 2.1 innings, allowing seven runs (four earned) on seven hits. Callie Averett entered in relief and allowed two runs over 1.2 innings.
Eastern Arizona totaled 10 hits in the game and took advantage of early opportunities to build a lead that held throughout.
With the loss, the Lady Coyotes drop the second game of the series as Eastern Arizona takes both contests on Friday.
The four-game ACCAC series will continue Saturday in Thatcher, with game three scheduled for 11:00 a.m..
