NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The College of Southern Nevada volleyball team wasted little time making a statement to open the 2026 season, sweeping Truckee Meadows Community College in straight sets Friday night at the Coyote Events Center.
The Lady Coyotes rolled to a 25-14, 25-15, 25-16 victory, improving to 1-0 on the season behind an impressive collegiate debut from freshman outside hitter Tayla Singleton.
Singleton was dominant throughout the night, finishing with a match-high 18 kills on just 25 attacks with only two errors, good for a blistering .640 hitting percentage. She also delivered four of CSN's 10 service aces and added seven digs to finish with a match-high 22 points.
CSN established control immediately, hitting .357 in the opening set with 13 kills and only three attacking errors on the way to a 25-14 victory. The Lady Coyotes kept Truckee Meadows under pressure in the second, holding the visitors to a -.208 hitting percentage while taking a commanding two-set advantage with a 25-15 win.
The offense saved its best performance for the final set.
CSN erupted for 18 kills while committing just four errors in 35 attacks, hitting .400 in the third to close out the sweep, 25-16. The Lady Coyotes finished the match with 41 kills and a .277 hitting percentage, while limiting Truckee Meadows to 17 kills and a -.040 hitting percentage.
Singleton wasn't the only freshman to make an immediate impact. Briley Fawson recorded seven kills on 14 attacks, hitting .357, while adding two service aces and five digs in two sets of action. Chasia Hoapili added four kills while hitting .250, and LillyAnne Christensen finished with four kills.
CSN's setters kept the offense moving throughout the night, with Libbie Ferreiro handing out 16 assists and Madison Ortiz adding 15. Defensively, freshman Emma Colin led the Lady Coyotes with nine digs, while Singleton and Kody Wengler collected seven apiece.
The service line also proved to be a major weapon for Southern Nevada. CSN finished with 10 aces, led by Singleton's four. Fawson added two, while Ferreiro, Colin, Ortiz and Mia Scott each recorded one.
Truckee Meadows struggled to find an offensive rhythm against the Lady Coyotes, committing 20 attacking errors and hitting below .100 in all three sets. Alysa O'Brien led TMCC with eight kills, while Adrielle Caguiat added five.
With the season-opening victory secured, Southern Nevada will have a quick turnaround. The Lady Coyotes return to the Coyote Events Center on Saturday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. for a second match against Truckee Meadows Community College.
