NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The College of Southern Nevada men's soccer team was unable to carry the momentum from its season-opening victory into Saturday's matchup, falling 6-0 to Utah State University Eastern at the Cheyenne Sports Complex.
Playing less than 24 hours after opening the 2026 season with a 1-0 victory over Truckee Meadows Community College, the Coyotes fell behind early as the Eagles scored twice in the opening eight minutes and never relinquished control. The loss dropped CSN to 1-1 on the young season.
Utah State Eastern opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Luis Velasco found the back of the net off an assist from Rodrigo Palacios. Just one minute later, Leandro Suarez Soruco doubled the advantage with Oliver Palafox providing the assist.
CSN worked to settle into the match following the early deficit and generated all three of its shots during the opening 45 minutes. Javier Montes, Jose Martin Ospina and Omar Enciso each recorded a shot for the Coyotes. The Eagles, however, struck again just before halftime when Ishmail Shehata scored in the 43rd minute to send Utah State Eastern into the break with a 3-0 advantage.
The Eagles continued to apply pressure in the second half. Shehata scored his second goal of the match in the 67th minute, followed by goals from Kash Peterson in the 80th minute and Christian Poll in the 87th to complete the scoring.
Utah State Eastern finished with a 10-3 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. The Eagles committed 12 fouls compared with 10 for CSN.
Ulises Mier started in goal for Southern Nevada and played the opening 45 minutes, making four saves while allowing three goals. Adrian Reyes took over after halftime and played the final 45 minutes.
The Coyotes will now turn their attention to their first road trip of the season. CSN travels to Rangely, Colorado, to face Colorado Northwestern Community College on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 3:30 p.m. MDT.
