CASPER, Wyo. — Cristal Lara scored twice for the College of Southern Nevada, but Casper College answered with two goals in the second half, including the game-winner in the 88th minute, to hand the Lady Coyotes a 3-2 loss Saturday.
Casper struck first when Alora Taylor scored off an assist from Lilly Brimley in the 20th minute, but Southern Nevada responded before the break.
Lara provided the equalizer in the 33rd minute, scoring unassisted to pull the Lady Coyotes even at 1-1. The two teams remained tied heading into halftime despite CSN holding a 7-5 advantage in shots during the opening 45 minutes.
Southern Nevada wasted little time taking its first lead after halftime. Lara struck again in the 50th minute, completing her two-goal performance and putting CSN in front, 2-1.
The advantage lasted seven minutes.
Casper's Tatiana Marsenaro converted a free kick in the 57th minute to tie the match at 2-2, setting up a back-and-forth final half hour. With the match appearing headed toward a draw, the Thunderbirds found the deciding goal in the 88th minute when Abby Muir assisted McKenna Myers for the 3-2 advantage.
The teams finished even with 14 shots apiece, with CSN producing seven in each half. Lara led the Lady Coyotes' attack with 10 shots and accounted for both Southern Nevada goals. Jazlyn Chavez added two shots, while Melanie Mendez and Kate Oliva each recorded one.
In goal, Madison English played the full 90 minutes for Southern Nevada and made eight saves as the Thunderbirds put 11 shots on frame. Casper goalkeeper Emma Nelson finished with three saves.
The loss wrapped up Southern Nevada's two-match road swing through Colorado and Wyoming.
