COOLIDGE, Ariz. — The College of Southern Nevada volleyball team made quick work of a two-match Arizona road swing over the weekend, earning back-to-back straight-set victories over Central Arizona College and South Mountain Community College.
The Lady Coyotes opened the trip Friday night in Coolidge with a key ACCAC victory, sweeping Central Arizona 25-23, 25-19, 25-20 before traveling to Phoenix and taking care of South Mountain 25-18, 25-16, 25-16 on Saturday.
CSN's offense was led by Mia Scott in Friday's conference matchup. Scott delivered a match-high 13 kills on 29 attempts with only two errors, hitting .379. Tayla Singleton added nine kills and nine digs, while Briley Fawson contributed four kills and De'Lasia Grider finished with three kills as part of an impressive performance at the net.
Grider was a major factor defensively, recording five solo blocks and two block assists as the Lady Coyotes controlled play at the net. Sydney Anderson added four solo blocks and a block assist, while LillyAnne Christensen contributed a solo block and two block assists. CSN totaled 11 solo blocks and eight block assists in the victory.
The Lady Coyotes also kept Central Arizona under pressure from the service line. Libbie Ferreiro recorded three of CSN's six aces while distributing 20 assists. Kody Wengler anchored the back row with a team-high 14 digs, with Singleton adding nine and Ferreiro seven.
Less than 24 hours later, CSN carried that momentum into Phoenix.
Singleton took over the offensive lead against South Mountain, putting down a match-high 11 kills on 21 attempts while hitting .333 and adding two aces. Scott contributed seven kills, Fawson finished with six while hitting .313, and Anderson added five kills without an attacking error to also hit .313. Christensen provided four kills on six attempts for a .500 hitting percentage.
The Lady Coyotes hit .226 as a team while holding South Mountain to a .069 hitting percentage in the box score totals. CSN's defense finished with 59 digs, led by Isabella Liugalua with 14. Wengler and Madison Ortiz added nine apiece, while Emma Colin collected eight. Ortiz directed the offense with 20 assists, and Ferreiro added 11.
CSN was especially effective from the service line Saturday, finishing with nine aces while not allowing South Mountain an ace. Ferreiro led the way with three, Singleton added two, and Wengler, Colin, Scott and Grider each recorded one.
The two victories completed a perfect weekend for Southern Nevada and moved the Lady Coyotes to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in ACCAC play following Saturday's match.
CSN now returns home and turns its attention back to conference play. The Lady Coyotes will host Eastern Arizona College on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Coyote Events Center in North Las Vegas.
