Coach Wetjen graduated from UNLV in 1998 with a BS in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Biological Sciences. She attained a master’s degree in Education Administration from NOVA Southeastern University in 2003.

While attending UNLV, Wetjen was a member of the 1996 inaugural season and was a two year starter for the volleyball program.  She was named an Academic All-American in 1997. After graduating from UNLV, Wetjen became a teacher for CCSD. 

Before attending UNLV, Wetjen graduated from Pahrump Valley High School in Pahrump, Nevada. There she was a two sport athlete for the Trojans (volleyball and softball). In volleyball, she was 1st team All-State her junior and senior years. She has been inducted into the PVHS Hall of Fame. 

Wetjen was born in Elgin, Illinois, grew up in California, and has lived in Las Vegas since 1988. In 1998, she married Horst Wetjen, and they have three children – Audrey, Bryce and Seth.  

Coach Wetjen met Coach Thurman in the Fall of 1999 while she was the assistant varsity volleyball coach at Las Vegas High School and Coach Thurman was the assistant at Bishop Gorman High School. Coach Thurman took over the head coaching position in 2000 at LVHS and the two have been best friends ever since.
