Las Vegas, NV- The College of Southern Nevada Coyotes might have been the odds-on favorite to win the SWAC Conference regular season this year, but they still had to perform on the field to make it a reality. This past weekend the Coyotes won three out of four games on the road against the Golden Eagles, assuring themselves at least a share of the SWAC regular season championship and home field advantage in the Region 18 playoffs. All the hype and pre-season expectations would mean absolutely nothing if the CSN Coyotes didn't live up to them. If anything, they've out-performed those predictions, with a more than dominate pitching staff and timely hitting, which has led to the Coyotes being ranked #17 in the nation. This past weekend the Coyotes traveled to Twin Falls, Idaho to take on the Golden Eagles.
,
Starting pitcher Anthony Martine got the start in game #1. Martine looked ready to shut down the CSI Golden Eagles' bats and get the CSN Coyotes one step closer to their first place trophy. During the six innings he pitched, Anthony Martine was able to get out of any trouble unscathed, without allowing a run., Starting shortstop Tyler Brown led off the top of the sixth inning with a home run to left field, giving the Coyotes a one to zero lead over the Golden Eagles. The Coyotes scored another run in the eighth inning on a passed ball from the Golden Eagles pitcher, which scored center fielder Kenny Meimerstorf. CSN's bullpen continued to be lights out this game, getting three combined shut out innings from relief pitchers Josh Nuernberg and Alec Hutt. The Coyotes took game #1 with a final score of two to zero.
,
Starting pitcher for game #2, Phil Bickford, continued upon his outstanding season and threw a brilliant game against the Golden Eagles., Bickford threw five innings, only allowing one hit and two walks, while striking out nine batters, increasing his overall strike out total to 126. The Coyotes were able to score six runs in the game, behind starting third baseman Jose Verdugo's two RBI singles. In relief of Phil Bickford was pitcher Nate Bennett, who didn't have his best stuff on the mound this game. Bennett only allowed two runs before ending the game with a pop up to second base. The final score was Coyotes six, Golden Eagles two.
Game #3 was a nail biter for the Coyotes., The game went into extra innings with a score of one to one after the seventh inning., Tyler Brown was at it again with his clutch at bats, and drove in a run with a bunt single in the top of the eighth inning., Relief pitcher, Alec Hutt, entered the game in the bottom of the eighth inning, looking for his sixth save of the season., But the CSI Golden Eagles had something else in mind., After a lead off walk and a throwing error by Hutt, the Golden Eagles had the tying run in scoring position., The Golden Eagles starting shortstop, Harrison Ramey, drove in the game tying run with a RBI double to right center field. Ramey later scored the game winning run off of a RBI single by starting right fielder Kody Garvin. The Coyotes lost a close one, three to two, in favor of the Golden Eagles.

The final game of the series was a great one for the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes for so many different reasons., For one, they defeated the Golden Eagles 12 to four. Not only that, they officially won the right to host the SWAC Conference Tournament, and guaranteed at least a share of the SWAC regular season title. But most importantly, starting pitcher, Aj Jones, made his first appearance since March 27 and looked like his normal self. Jones entered the game in the fourth inning, with his team down four to three, and knew his team needed him to shut down the Golden Eagles' bats, and that's exactly what he did. Through the final five innings of the game, which Jones pitched, he allowed only three hitters aboard. While Jones was shutting down the Golden Eagles, the Coyotes' bats continued to produce, scoring nine more runs before the game ended. The College of Southern Nevada defeated the College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles 12 to four, giving them their sixth consecutive series victory.
Winning this series for the CSN Coyotes was very important on so many levels. They won another road series, clinched first place in the SWAC with an entire series left to be played, became nationally ranked again, earned home field in the conference playoffs, and most importantly continued to play their best baseball of the entire season. The Coyotes have gotten past every obstacle thrown their way so far, and look poised to maintain their superior play, while advancing further and further in the playoffs. The last series of the regular season for the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes is at home against the Western Nevada College Wildcats, beginning this Thursday at 7:00 pm., The CSN Coyotes have had a great season thus far, but they aren't finished yet and will be looking to make a lot of noise in the playoffs this year.
