The Lady Coyotes welcomed in the #5 ranked CSI Golden Eagles to the den on sophomore weekend looking to exact a bit of revenge on a team that brought out the brooms on them (literally and figuratively) a month ago in Twin Falls Idaho.

Two sophomore's for the Lady Coyotes looked to set the tone for the weekend as Sarina Creswell and Megan Mello hit solo bombs in the home half of the first and second inning to build an early 2-0 lead over Golden Eagles, co-ace and seventeen game winner Kam Merrill. Unfortunately the good vibes did not last long as the Golden Eagles showed why they were the top offense in the SWAC, scoring ten unanswered runs which included four long balls. The Lady Coyotes fought the good fight all game long and Vanessa Sanders brought CSN to within 10-5 after launching a three run shot over the center field wall. The rally fell short as CSI defeated CSN 10-5 in game one of the weekend.

Sophomore pitcher Kristina Nelson took the mound in game two of the series hoping to break her teams five game losing streak and get her Lady Coyotes a victory over CSI for the first time this season. Nelson did all she could to hold the Golden Eagles down, but in the top of the third inning CSI struck for five runs and never looked back. The Golden Eagles tacked on three additional runs in the top of the fourth inning and led 8-0 after four innings. CSN's Sarina Creswell finally got to Kelsey Christensen in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI single that scored Maggie Manwarren, getting the Lady Coyotes on the board. CSI run ruled CSN 9-1 in game two of the weekend.

Saturday was the last time seven decorated CSN sophomore's would play their final home game and this team was determined to end a six game losing streak and finally get in the win column against the Golden Eagles. Ace Megan Mello was determined to make her final home start a memorable one and she didn't let down her intensity until the final out was made. Dacia Sykes and Sarina Creswell hit back to back homers in the bottom of the third inning, giving CSN a 3-1 lead and sophomore Mia Acuna put the Lady Coyotes ahead 6-3 after her first home run of the year cleared the left field wall. After Savannah Kirkpatrick brought CSI to within a run at 6-5 with a two-run home run the Lady Coyotes entered the bottom of the sixth inning with a slim one run lead. CSN scored two unearned runs in the sixth and Vanessa Sanders delivered the knockout blow with her seventeenth round tripper of the year, extending the lead to 11-5. Despite allowing 11 hits and 6 runs Megan Mello was able to make the pitches when they counted as she pitched seven innings, striking out eight hitters and earning her fourteenth victory of the season in her final home appearance. CSN defeated CSI 11-6 in game three of the weekend.

Game four was emotional from the beginning as our sophomore's took the field for the final time here at home. Kristina Nelson took the mound for the final time at home looking to earn a split in a weekend series with the fifth ranked team in the country. The game got off to a nice start for the Lady Coyotes with a Vanessa Sanders SAC fly, but the tide quickly turned when the Golden Eagles scored six unanswered runs. The Lady Coyotes battled the rest of the game and eventually got to within 7-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it fell short after Dacia Sykes was called out at first on a questionable call that would have brought the tying run to the plate for the Lady Coyotes. CSI defeated CSN 7-5 in the final game of the series and captured the weekend series 3-1.

CSN will close out the regular season next weekend in Carson City as they face in-state rival Western Nevada in a four game series beginning Friday afternoon.
