Box Score By
Devin VirissimoThe final matchup between the Bruins of Salt Lake Community College and the Coyotes of the College of Southern Nevada turned out to be the most intense one of the entire weekend.
Sage Diehm took the hill for the Coyotes but struggled early on. He would hit the first batter, walk the second, and then hit the third. A costly error allowed for two runs to come around as the Bruins took the lead in the top half of the first.
The Coyotes answered back in the bottom half of the first after the Bruin pitcher hit two of his first four batters and then allowed an RBI triple from
Brody Westmoreland.
The Bruins then came roaring back with two more runs in the second and one more in the third. After shutting out the Coyotes for four straight innings, the Bruins tacked on another in the top of the 6
th.
Drew Newson stepped into the batter's box in the bottom half of the 6
th, and with the second pitch he saw, sent a towering shot over the left field fence to help spark his Coyotes into action.
The Coyotes would then add two more runs off of a couple more base hits before the Bruins would head to the bullpen. Unfortunately for them, the man they put in walked the first three batters and gave another run to CSN.
Trailing by one going into the bottom of the seventh, the Coyotes would add two more runs to their total after an RBI from
Blake Wiggins and another from
Jarrell Latham.
In the 8
th, a sacrifice fly from Newson would score Hand and the Coyotes lead would be 9-6 heading into the 9
th.
Tyler Hallead started on the hill but after allowing a lead off single and then hitting the next batter, Coach Garitano would send in
Ben Cutting.
Cutting walked the first batter, got the force out on the second while a run scored, and then struck out the third batter he faced.
Now with two outs and two on base, Coach Garitano went to
Alec Hutt to get the final out.
Hutt would walk the first batter he faced; loading the bases against him.
Then, the next batter hit a hard shot deep in the right side hole, but Westmoreland chased it down and tossed it to a stumbling Hutt who taged first and collected the final out and the save.
Coyotes win 9-7 and take the weekend series 3 games to 1.
The Coyotes will be in Twin Falls, ID next weekend for a four game series against the Golden Eagles of the College of Southern Idaho.
