Coyotes Rally for Region 18 Crown

Box Score

By Devin Virissimo

Henderson, NV – After dropping the first game of the tournament in drastic fashion, the Coyotes had to make their way through the loser's bracket to keep their hopes of a World Series Trophy alive.

After sending the Golden Eagles and the Spartans home, their sights were set on the Bruins.

Dan Skelly took the hill for the final win or go home game for Coach Garritano's boys.

The veteran sophomore rose to the occasion, only allowing six hits and two runs through his seven innings of work while striking out seven.

The Bruins collected their first run in the second but the Coyotes sprang to life in the bottom half of the frame. With one out, Jarrett Perns singled.
Nicco Festa followed suit with a single before Jay Martz walked to load the bases.

The Bruins went to the bullpen but their relief pitcher walked Jordan Macias to tie the game and then walked Christian Maggi to give the lead to the Coyotes.

With the shift on from the Bruin defense, Justin Lutes hit against it into deep left center for a 3 RBI double to give the Coyotes the 5-1 lead.

Both teams were unable to produce anything until the Bruins scored their second run in the top half of the seventh.

The Coyotes then answered in the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff single from Justin Lutes.

Cody Milner then pinch-hit and earned a walk. Dillon Johnson than tripled to plate Lutes and Milner.
Johnson would score on a passed ball before Perns would single and Festa would get on with a walk.

???????Martz would single to score Perns and then Macias would single to score Festa.

When the dust settled, the Coyotes would lead 10-2.

Alex Tisminezky would be brought in to collect the final six outs after an impressive outing from Skelly.

???????Tisminezky would strike out four and as the Coyotes slammed the door on the Bruins to win the Region 18 Tournament.

CSN will hit the road to Yuma, AZ to battle for the Western District Title on May 18.
