Following a pair of one goal losses to nationally ranked #9 Snow College at home, the Lady Coyotes regrouped and focused in in claiming its first conference victory of the 2018 season as they welcomed in Utah State University Eastern and #15 Salt Lake Community College into the "Den" for an action packed week of Scenic West Athletic Conference soccer.
Southern Nevada had revenge on the brain as they welcomed in an Eagles team that had defeated them once earlier in Price, Utah and earned a draw in the team's second meeting the following afternoon. Coach Hawkins and his staff got the quick start they were hoping for when Sara Marie Coavarrubias got CSN on the scoreboard courtesy of a great assist from Ashley Jordan. The Lady Coyotes remained on the attack and it paid dividends just before the half as
Jessica Carnahan doubled Southern Nevada's lead to 2-0, thanks to helpers off the boots of
Brianna Duran and Ashley Jordan. USU-E cut its deficit in half with a goal 27 seconds into the second half, putting the pressure back on the home team.
A crucial penalty on the Eagles in the 65
th minute awarded CSN a penalty shot, and star striker Ashley Jordan found the back of the net to give Southern Nevada a 3-1 advantage. Eastern scored late to cut the deficit to 3-2, however a clutch defensive effort down the stretch propelled the Lady Coyotes to the victory circle 3-2. The win improved CSN's record to 1-5-1 in SWAC play and 7-5-1 overall.
Three days after claiming its first conference victory of the season, the #15 Salt Lake Community College Bruins invaded Southern Nevada looking to improve to 3-0 on the year versus CSN after claiming a pair of shutout victories in the Beehive State last month.
The Bruins tallied the first goal of the match just 2:26 in and never looked back.
Despite an outstanding effort from the Lady Coyotes on both sides of the ball they were not able to solve the Bruins defense. SLCC added its second goal of the match in the 64
th minute to put the finishing touches on the victory. SLCC defeated CSN 2-0, dropping them to 1-6-1 in conference and 7-6-1 overall.
