Lady Coyote Soccer Recap | at Salt Lake

By James Hernandez

After improving to 6-1-1 with a pair of victories at home versus University of Utah Club, the level of competition stepped up in a hurry as CSN prepared to battle the #16 ranked Salt Lake Community College Bruins in Utah with the team still hunting for that elusive first conference victory of the 2018 season.

The Bruins entered Friday's match allowing the fewest shots on goal in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, and once again played stellar defense from the opening whistle to the final play of the match. Southern Nevada was outshot 10-2 in the opening half of play and despite some solid goalkeeping found itself trailing 2-0 at intermission thanks to goals by Baylie Saunders and Dominique Estrada. Salt Lake continued to dictate the pace of the match with its defense, outshooting the Lady Coyotes 9-0 in the second half and 19-2 overall. Madison Schmidt added the Bruins third goal of the match at the 54th minute mark and the defense did the rest.

SLCC preserved its seventh shutout in eight match victories as the dropped CSN 3-0. The loss dropped Southern Nevada to 0-2-1 in conference play and 6-2-1 overall in 2018.

CSN entered Saturday's match knowing that a strong commitment to the defensive side of the ball was crucial if they expected to give themselves a chance at a split with Salt Lake.

Southern Nevada was up to the challenge in the opening half, keeping the Bruins off the scoreboard until the 41st minute when Sarah Spencer netted the first goal of the match for the home team. The deficit was 1-0 at the half, however a flurry of four goals in the first nineteen minutes of the second half by SLCC put the Lady Coyotes in a 5-0 hole that they were unable to escape from. Despite some quality chances at goals, CSN was shutout for the second consecutive day, this time dropping the match 5-0 to the Bruins. The loss dropped the Lady Coyotes to 0-3-1 in SWAC play and 6-3-1 overall.

Fans your Lady Coyotes will battle the Badgers of Snow College Friday October 5th and Saturday October 6th in a critical SWAC showdown.
