Lady Coyote Soccer Recap | vs #9 Snow College

By James Hernandez

After dropping a pair of matches to the Bruins last weekend in the Beehive State, Southern Nevada returned to the comforts of home looking to rebound versus the first place and #9 ranked Snow College Badgers, in another competitive weekend of SWAC soccer.

The Badgers entered Friday's match unblemished in conference play, and if that wasn't impressive enough the team had only surrendered three goals in four SWAC matches this season. Southern Nevada was prepared for a defensive struggle and was able to match the Badgers defensive intensity in the opening 45 minutes of play, sending both sides into the locker room scoreless after 45 grueling minutes of play. Second half action began with both sides contesting every pass and ball in play, however Snow College was able to breakthrough and score the matches first goal in the 70th minute. Callie Burt netted the matches only goal to push the unbeaten Badgers past the Lady Coyotes 1-0. The loss dropped CSN to 0-4-1 in conference play and 6-4-1 overall.

Both teams took the pitch Saturday with a renewed commitment to the defensive side of the ball that saw the previous day's match yield just one goal in 90 minutes of intense, defensive minded soccer. The opening half of play looked like a carbon copy of Friday's match until Snow's Hallie Rhees converted a controversial play into the match's first goal at the 43:41 mark of the first half. The match remained 1-0 in favor of the visiting Badgers until Sophie Stewart doubled Snow College's lead over to 2-0 in the 70th minute thanks to a great assist from Kylee Stevens.

CSN was able to solve the Badger's defense when Ashlee Jordan found the back of the net in the 89th minute, courtesy of a sick helper off the boot of Olivia Meza. Unfortunately CSN's rally fell just short as the first place Badgers hung on for the 2-1 victory. The loss dropped Southern Nevada to 0-5-1 in conference and 6-5-1 overall.

Fans your Lady Coyotes will be back in action at the "Den" Wednesday October 10th versus USU-Eastern and Saturday October 13th versus the SLCC Bruins.
