The Lady Coyotes welcomed the Colorado Northwestern Spartans into the "Den" looking to snap a season-high 13 game losing streak as they celebrated "sophomore weekend" during the team's final home stand of the 2018 season.
Game one began with sophomore starter
Lindsey Daron in the circle for Southern Nevada. The former Union high school standout fired a complete game one-hitter, unfortunately for Daron the one hit she surrendered found its way over the outfield wall to prevent her from a shutout. Fellow sophomore
Daryan Meade paced the Lady Coyotes offense with a game best four runs batted in that included a laser three-run bomb over the centerfield wall.
Haleigh Olive,
Katelyn Enzweiler,
Allie Lamb and
Jessica Garcia pitched in with 1 RBI apiece. CSN dispatched CNCC 9-1 to extinguish the teams 13 game losing streak and improve to 9-16 in conference play and 12-23 overall.
After snapping a season-high 13 game losing streak in game one, the Lady Coyotes set their sights on consecutive victories for the first time since in nearly a month. Freshman
Kristie Thomas took the ball and was backed by the second best offensive output of the season from her offense. Southern Nevada erupted for eight runs in the first inning, highlighted by a pair of runs batted in of the bat of
Haleigh Olive. CNCC struck for a three spot in the top of the third inning to cut the deficit to 10-3, however it was as close as the Spartans would get. CSN plated the final eight runs of the game to propel Thomas to her team leading fifth victory of the season.
Sabrina Saldate tied
Haleigh Olive with a team-high 3 runs batted in while
Justine Tadeo-Corpuz,
Jessica Garcia and
Elise Bush chipped in with a pair of RBI's apiece. Southern Nevada blasted Colorado Northwestern 18-3, improving to 10-16 in the SWAC and 13-23 overall.
Saturday was "Sophomore Day" as the Lady Coyotes prepared to play its final home game of the 2018 season. Following an emotional pregame ceremony that honored the teams departing players, CSN was determined to send its sophomores out winners.
Lindsey Daron tossed arguably her best game of the season as she held CNCC to a pair of hits, over her five shutout innings of work. Lindsey's performance over the weekend made her a no-brainer to receive SWAC pitcher of the week honors. Daron combined to allow just 1 run and three hits over 11 stellar innings of work, that resulted in a pair of victories over the weekend.
Justine Tadeo-Corpuz tallied a season-best four runs batted in to lead the team and
Tayzha Meyers deposited a two-run round tripper to put the icing on the shutout victory. The Lady Coyotes blanked the Spartans 9-0 to improve to 11-16 in conference and 14-23 overall.
With three victories in the books, Southern Nevada had its mind set on breaking out the brooms and claiming a win in the last home game of the 2018 season.
Kristie Thomas was exceptional for the second time as she blanked the Spartans for the second straight game. Thomas allowed just five hits and no runs in the complete game victory. The Lady Coyotes put the game out of reach early as they plated seven runs in the team's first two innings at the plate.
Kiana Burnett and
Elise Bush led the team with a pair of RBI's each, but it was an all-out team victory as seven players tallied at least one run batted in. Southern Nevada closed out Colorado Northwestern 13-0 in its final home game of the 2018 season. The victory propelled CSN to 12-16 in Scenic West play and 15-23 overall.
