Following a grueling 1-1 draw with nationally respected Mt. Sac College on the Mounties home turf in Walnut, California the Coyotes returned home to host the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans in a crucial pair of Scenic West Athletic Conference matches at Heritage Park, a place where Southern Nevada has only dropped one match in two plus seasons of play.
CSN established itself early in the match when
Jaime Munguia beat the Spartans keeper to draw first blood, thanks to a helper off the boot of
Bruno Aleman. Despite outshooting CNCC 21-2 in the opening half the Coyotes were only able to tally one goal after the opening 45 minutes of play. Less than a minute into the second half business picked when one of the premier striker's in NJCAA soccer
Manuel Ponce converted a perfect feed from
Jesus Gonzalez into Southern Nevada's second goal of the match.
Birthday boy
Maliq Cooper got into the scoring act in the 67
th minute courtesy of
Jesus Gonzalez's second assist of the match to extend the Coyotes advantage to 3-0.
Vincent Vitellaro sealed the deal in late in the second half when he found the back of the net following a sweet feed off the boot of
Benjamin Stang that put Southern Nevada ahead 4-0. CSN defeated CNCC 4-0 after outshooting the Spartans 44-5 in the match, improving to 5-1-1 on the year.
With a road trip to Yavapai College and Salt Lake looming next week, it would have been easy to overlook a CNCC team they shutout less than 24 hours prior.
Fortunately for the CSN faithful, the Coyotes were focused on the task at hand.
Gustavo Garcia got Southern Nevada on the board first thanks to a helper from
Vincent Vitellaro in the 26
th minute.
Jaime Munguia doubled CSN's lead just before halftime with the assist going to
Jose Arreola as the Coyotes entered intermission leading 2-0.
Oscar Rodriguez extended the Coyotes lead to 3-0 just 1:45 into the second half with an unassisted score.
Manuel Ponce converted a sweet feed off the boot of
Jesus Gonzalez into a commanding 4-0 advantage and once again Southern Nevada was off and running. Marcos Delangel-Parra scored the Coyotes fifth goal of the match at the 54 minute mark of the match as
Jesus Gonzalez earned his second assist of the match.
Bruno Aleman sealed the blowout victory when he put a
Roberto Salazar assist into the back of the net, extending the Coyotes lead to 6-0. All phases of the team were in sync as the Coyotes defeated the Spartans 6-0 in the match, keeping CNCC off the scoreboard in 180 minutes of pure domination. The victory improved CSN's season record to 6-1-1 in 2018.
Fans your Coyotes will throw down with the Yavapai College Roughriders in Prescott, Arizona on Tuesday and the Salt Lake CC Bruins this weekend in Taylorsville, Utah in a critical SWAC showdown.
