After shutting out the Western Wyoming Community College Mustangs at home last weekend the #20 team in NJCAA soccer prepared for a pair of non-conference tests versus the Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles and the Victor Valley Rams.
Southern Nevada welcomed the Golden Eagles to Heritage Park where the Coyotes had claimed victories in 15 of the teams 18 matches. 2018 All-Region XVIII performer Miguel Delangel-Parra converted a penalty kick just 55 seconds into the match to stake the Coyotes to a 1-0 lead before the crowd was seated. The game settled down after the PK as both teams traded momentum. CSN capitalized late in the first half when
Maliq Cooper converted an unassisted goal to double the Coyotes lead and send them to halftime leading 2-0.
Cooper came out of the locker room determined to leave his mark on this match, and he did just that to seal the victory for Southern Nevada. In the 75
th minute Maliq converted a sweet pass of the boot of
Oscar Rodriguez into his second goal of the match, extending the Coyotes lead to 3-0. CSN shutout LCCC 4-0, improving to 16-1-2 at home in the regular season and 2-0 in 2018.
Momentum was on the side of Southern Nevada Sunday afternoon as they invaded Victorville, California for its first road match of the year versus the Victor Valley College Rams. Both teams came out in a defensive mindset and despite CSN outshooting VVCC 8-1 in the first half, the teams went into intermission scoreless.
Felipe Lucero broke the scoreless tie in the 56
th minute after assists from Marcos Delangel-Parra and
Maliq Cooper.
Benjamin Stang made his presence felt in huge way just minutes apart when he found the back of the net in the 65
th and 67
th minutes ,with
Felipe Lucero assisting on the first goal and Cooper and Lucero assisting on the second.
Maliq Cooper put the icing on the victory after netting his first goal and third points of the match to expand CSN's lead to 4-0. Southern Nevada's scoreless streak against ended after 168 minutes when the Rams beat Coyotes keeper
Paolo Sarnataro for the first time in 2018. CSN held off VVCC 4-2, improving to 3-0 on he year.
