HENDERSON, Nev. (October 2, 2019) – After opening the Scenic West Athletic Conference season with a tough loss, the College of Southern Nevada volleyball team is looking forward to getting on the right track.
The Lady Coyotes started league play with a loss to travel-partner Snow College, 3-0, competing well but being unable to finish sets. With upcoming matches against national powers Salt Lake Community College and the College of Southern Idaho, CSN will have opportunities to have season-making victories.
CSN coach
Chris Vergnaud said his team understands the opportunities ahead of them this week.
"I knew we had to play our best match against Snow and we did not do that; we had two sets where we played some good volleyball, however," he said. "As we continue this week in practice, we are preparing for two more tough teams. I am confident that our group will bounce back and play much better this weekend."
The Lady Coyotes will host Southern Idaho on Thursday and Salt Lake on Saturday. The matchup with Southern Idaho will be a matchup of teams that are hoping to get on track, especially for CSI. The Golden Eagles entered the season with national title hopes after a deep run a season ago but have run into tough times, going just 10-9 overall and 4-4 in their last eight matches.
Salt Lake is one of the highest ranked teams in the Scenic West, having been nationally-ranked in the NJCAA polls for most of the season. The Bruins are 2-0 after downing nationally-ranked USU Eastern and blowing by Colorado Northwestern, with an overall mark of 19-5.
Southern Nevada's Thursday match against Southern Idaho is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. The Thursday match will also be a 'Vegas Strong' match. Saturday's match against Salt Lake Community College will start at 1:00 p.m. Saturday's match will benefit the 'Dig Pink-Side Out Foundation.
