Coach Garritano handed the ball to Thousand Oaks freshman
Garrett Clarke in the opener of the series, as Clarke looked to lock down his second victory of 2019.
Clarke was a bit shaky in the top of the first, surrendering three hits and one run in the opening frame. Fortunately for Southern Nevada, Garrett settled in, firing four innings of shutout baseball the rest of the way, allowing just five total hits.
Eight of the nine starting position players for CSN accounted for at least one hit in a thirteen run, eleven hit offensive onslaught.
Steven Rivas, Nick "Chewy" Hernandez and Joey Walls tied one another with a game-high three runs batted in apiece.
Former Faith Lutheran Crusader
Josh Brown did not allow a hit or free pass over two shutout frames out of the pen.
Southern Nevada blasted Prairie Baseball Academy 13-1 to run its winning streak to eleven games and improving to 13-4 overall.
With the impending threat of inclement weather looming over Wednesday's contest, game time was moved up five hours in order to get the game in before rain and snow blanketed Southern Nevada. A challenging start time forced the CSN coaches to juggle its lineup, and ended up with three pitchers in the starting outfield.
Former Campbell High School standout
Jamin Kalaola was on the bump in search of his first victory in Coyote blue. Kalaola was dominant at times over his four frames of work, fanning seven Dawgs and allowing just one, run on three hits with no free passes.
Long balls off the bats of
AJ Amelburu (2-run HR) and
Johnny Cuevas (3-run HR) helped the Coyotes blitz PBA with ten runs scored in the first three innings with the bat. Freshman
Jimmy Gamboa fired four innings of one run baseball out of the pen to earn the save as Southern Nevada dominated Prairie Baseball Academy 12-2.
The victory extended the Coyotes winning streak to 12 games and improved the teams overall mark to 14-4.Â
After Mother Nature put a halt to Thursday's game, Southern Nevada welcomed in Okanagan College for a doubleheader on Friday afternoon.
Freshman two-way standout
Johnny Cuevas took the ball looking to improve to 3-0 in his fourth start of the 2019 season. Cuevas fired three no-hit innings of work, punching out five Okanagan batters in the process.
Nicholas Thompson relieved Johnny to begin the fourth inning and proceeded to toss 4.2 shutout frames, extending his scoreless innings pitched streak to 12.1 and bringing his season strikeout total to 16.
The Coyote offense was brought back to earth after existing in the stratosphere the previous six games. Nick "Chewy" Hernandez and
Steven Rivas manufactured the only two runs of the game with a sacrifice fly and groundout in the first and eighth innings.
JD Brooks came out of the pen to fan three of the four batters he faced to earn the save and preserve a thirteenth consecutive victory for the Coyotes 3-0.
The win improved CSN's overall record to 15-4 in 2019.
Game two of the double dip and game four of the weekend featured former Silverado Skyhawk
Buddy Pindel on the bump. Pindel was fresh off earning co-pitcher of the week honors with teammate
Ed O'Bannon III after the pair combined to no-hit this same Okanagan College team last Friday. Buddy surrendered a pair of runs over four innings of work, departing the game with his team trailing 2-0.
RBI's off the bats of Joey Walls and
AJ Amelburu in the fourth and fifth innings allowed Southern Nevada to knot the contest up 2-2.
The game remained tied until a three run bottom of the seventh spearheaded by a 2-run double off the bat of
Johnny Cuevas gave the Coyotes its first lead of the game.
Cole Schaefer and Joey Walls added one RBI apiece in the seventh to extend CSN's lead to 6-2.
CNCC transfer Trevor Berg tossed three no-hit frames of relief, striking out three OKC hitters on his way to the victory.
Chase Bauerle fanned the side in the top of the ninth to earn his second save of the year.
CSN edged OKC 6-2, running its winning streak to 14 games and improving to 16-4 overall.Â
Southern Nevada concluded non-conference play Saturday morning versus Okanagan College as a weary Coyote team played its ninth game in seven days.
Southpaw
Nick Rupp got the start in the finale, looking to solidify his place at the top of the CSN starting rotation with conference play on the horizon. Rupp allowed just a pair of hits over four shutout frames of work.
Offensively the Coyotes exploded for seven runs in the first four innings swinging the sticks. The table setters at the top of the lineup
Dax Fellows and
Jack Pineda combined to score four runs on four hits, with one RBI and a pair of stolen bases.
Seven of the nine starting position players had at least one hit with
Johnny Cuevas leading the team with a pair of RBI's.
Trever Jackson (1IP),
Spencer Cofer (1 IP),
Ed O'Bannon III (2 IP) and
JD Brooks combined to close out the victory behind Rupp.
Southern Nevada won its fifteenth consecutive game 8-2 versus Okanagan College, improving to 17-4 in 2019.
