HENDERSON, Nev. (Aug. 21, 2019) – The College of Southern Nevada volleyball program has successfully concluded camp and is heading towards a season-opening tournament that begins Thursday in North Las Vegas.

The Lady Coyotes will welcome in a trio of opponents for a preseason tournament held at the CSN Sports Center, including St. John's River Community College, Mesa Community College, and East Los Angeles College. While the tournament will open the season for CSN, it will also mark the conclusion of a successful training camp that has put Southern Nevada in position to contend this upcoming season in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

"We have grown a lot since the start of practice," CSN coach Chris Vergnaud said. "This group of young women is hungry and they are willing to fight for just about anything. As with any new young group, we have a lot of work to do but this group is very determined and eager to put in the grind to get better each day."

This weekend's tournament will kick off a preseason that will feature two tournaments and seven other matches in competition. While the opponents will feature top-flight competition from around the Southwest, CSN's scheduling approach has been to welcome in more of those programs in the efforts of preparing the team for stern competition in the Scenic West.

"Each of the teams we will face this weekend will present a different set of challenges for our group," said Vergnaud. We will have to learn on the go, make necessary adjustments, and continue working toward our preseason goals."

More than anything, with teams entering that have had regional success in the past, Vergnaud said he is excited to see how his team performs.

"It will be interesting to see who will step up this weekend and lead our team," he said. "We have such a great group of athletes that any one of them can be a 'player to watch'. If fans want to see a determined and hungry group of Coyotes, our gym will be the place to be this weekend."
