Lady Coyote Soccer Prepares For 2019 Home Opener

HENDERSON, Nev. (August 28, 2019) – The College of Southern Nevada women's soccer team accomplished exactly what it wanted to in its opening weekend to the 2019 season, going 2-0 while outscoring opponents 11-0.

Now CSN returns home to Henderson's Heritage Park for two non-conference matches that will continue to tell the story of where the Lady Coyotes are going. CSN will face off against Sheridan College (WY) on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. and Arizona Western College at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, with Thursday's match serving as the program's 2019 home opener.

Looking back at last weekend's wins, which featured an 8-0 victory over Gateway and a 3-0 win at Paradise Valley, CSN coach Geoff Hawkins noted how his team's effort impressed many people.

"It was a gritty performance to deliver the wins in the hot and humid conditions," he said. "If our keeper didn't make a couple huge saves (in the PVCC match), the match could have ended very differently."

Both Sheridan and Arizona Western will provide two strong tests of CSN's momentum. Sheridan opened the season with a 1-0 loss to USU Eastern last Saturday, as the Eagles scored a goal in the second half to earn the match victory. Arizona Western will open its season in the match with CSN.

Hawkins said his team will have to play to continue its upward climb.

"We're excited for this weekend's matches at our place," he said. "We've shown we can play well against quality opponents and will have to continue to do so this weekend."

CSN will host two more preseason matches on Sept. 6-7 against Western Wyoming Community College and Otero Junior College. The Lady Coyotes will open Scenic West Athletic Conference play on Sept. 12 against Snow College in Henderson.
